How to make a basketball logo for your team

Three steps, nothing to upload. You only type the name and click your choices.

  1. 1

Type the team name and a tagline

The name is required (up to 40 characters). The tagline is optional (up to 50) and sits below the name in smaller letters, like "Run the Floor".

  2. 2

Pick a style, an icon and a color pair

Choose Badge, Mascot, Minimal, Vintage or Wordmark, then one of six basketball icons and one of seven palettes. Match the palette to your jerseys.

  3. 3

    Generate, then download

One square 1024 x 1024 PNG arrives, usually in under a minute. Save it as is, or press Transparent PNG to drop the white background.

Why make your basketball logo here

Asked to be original, not a pro team's

Every request tells the model to make an original design that does not copy or resemble any existing team logo. We can't guarantee the result is unlike every mark, so check it, but it beats downloading a famous logo you cannot print on jerseys.

Spelling held up in our tests

In more than 60 test logos, every team name and tagline came out spelled correctly, apostrophes included. Proof it anyway before the jersey order goes in.

A transparent PNG for dark jerseys

The Transparent PNG button removes the white connected to the edges. White enclosed inside the artwork, such as lettering in a badge, usually stays, but a broken outline can let it be cut out. Preview it on a dark color.

Try three directions for free

You get three logos free for good, with no sign-up, no card and no watermark. Enough to test a mascot, a badge and a minimal take side by side.

Basketball logo options compared

Most searches end in one of these four places. Here is what each one gives a small team, in general terms; prices, files and rights vary by provider.

Who uses a basketball logo maker

Church and Tuesday-night league squads

A new season, a new roster and a captain who needs something on the reversible pinnies by opening tip.

AAU and travel clubs

One club mark for warmups, gym bags and the tournament program, in the club's own colors.

3x3 tournaments and shootouts

Organizers need an event logo for the bracket sheet, the banner and the event page in a weekend.

Intramurals and open gyms

A gym coordinator can give each intramural team its own badge for the standings board and the schedule.

Streetball crews and trainers

A skills trainer or a pickup crew gets a personal brand for socials, hoodies and lesson flyers.

Team apps and group chats

The square 1:1 format fits as a profile picture on league apps, team chats and social accounts.

Choosing the icon for a basketball logo

The icon decides how the logo reads from the bleachers. Basketball and Hoop & Net are the simplest shapes. They hold up on a shorts leg or a phone screen, and they suit Minimal and Wordmark styles.

Dunking Player and Flaming Ball carry more motion and more detail. They work best large, on a shirt front or a banner, and pair well with Mascot and Badge. Our Mascot plus Flaming Ball in Red & Black sample above shows that look.

Bull gives a team a character to rally around. Crowned Ball fits a tournament or a team that calls itself kings or queens of the court; see the Badge plus Crowned Ball sample in Purple & Gold. If none fits, describe extra details in the free-text box, up to 200 characters.

Before you generate your basketball logo

  • Keep the team name short; one or two words read better on a jersey than a full club name.
  • Use the tagline for a motto or a city, and leave jersey numbers and season years for the uniform.
  • Pick the palette closest to your current jerseys so the logo works on home and away sets.
  • Check every letter of the name and tagline before you order shirts or a banner.
  • Shrink the downloaded file to thumbnail size to see whether the icon still reads.

Common basketball logo mistakes

  • Mistake: Grabbing a team logo from a logo download site for your jerseys

Do this instead: Use an original design. Pro and college marks are usually registered trademarks, and a printer may turn the order down.

  • Mistake: Packing numbers, years and a long motto into the mark

Do this instead: Keep the logo to the name and a short tagline. The prompt asks for no other words or numbers, but check the result for stray text.

  • Mistake: Choosing a detailed icon for a small placement

Do this instead: For shorts, hats and app icons, pick Basketball or Hoop & Net in the Minimal style.

  • Mistake: Placing the white-background file on a dark jersey

Do this instead: Press Transparent PNG first, then preview it on a dark background before sending it out.
